RE: What happened to Murphy and Peña after Narcos?

I would like to know what happened to DEA agents Murphy and Peña after the events depicted in Narcos? Are they still in active duty?

The characters Steve Murphy and Javier Peña, portrayed in the hit Netflix show Narcos, are based on the real DEA agents of the same names. Both were indeed instrumental in the efforts to bring down the infamous drug lord, Pablo Escobar. After the events depicted in Narcos: 1. Steve Murphy: After the death of Escobar, Agent Murphy returned to the United States in 1994. He continued to work for the DEA until his retirement in 2013. Post DEA, he started a consulting firm and now gives lectures about his time in Colombia and his role in the downfall of Escobar. So, to answer your question, he is no longer in active duty. 2. Javier Peña: Agent Peña didn't immediately return to the U.S. after Escobar's death. He continued in Colombia and played a significant part in the dismantling of the Cali Cartel, as portrayed in the later season/s of Narcos. Peña retired from the DEA in 2014. Like Murphy, he too tours and gives public talks about his experiences. In conclusion, while both agents have retired, their experiences and stories continue to educate and inform others about the complexities of international drug trafficking and its impact. Please note that even though Narcos is based on true events, certain dramatic liberties were taken in the show, and some details may not fully align with the actual occurrences in the lives of the real agents.
